Chilly days are beginning to find their way to Pittsburgh making it the perfect time to get cozy, light a candle, and try a new hobby with your girls! There’s nothing that feels more like fall than crafting by candlelight while sipping your favorite pumpkin-spiced latte or cider! Am I right? But how do you know which craft is right for you? Let’s explore some of the options.

  1. Floral Besom/ Witch’s Broom

Art by the Local Mystic

One of our absolute favorite things to create is this witch’s/ besom broom!

Traditionally used for clearing and cleaning (like regular brooms) we like to add a little mindfulness twist by setting intentions about what you’d like to let go of / clear from your life, and then what you’d like to call into your life as well (think casting your own personal manifestation spell).

This craft provides a lot of opportunity for customization as you can choose different accent flowers, crystals, dried fruit, and other natural items that speak to you and your intentions. When you finish you can display it on your mantle or windowsill as a reminder of your intentions.

2. Charm Necklaces (with fall themed charms).

If you are the type of girlie who wants to walk away with something beautiful you can wear then a fall-themed charm necklace is the perfect fit for you!! This mindful craft is perfect for practicing patience and attention as jump rings (the little rings you use to attach the charms to your necklace) can be little tricksters! This craft is just challenging enough to get you feeling proud and inspired as you waltz into October.

3. Petals & Pumpkins!

You’ve seen it all over the internet. If you’re looking for a craft that is simple, easy, and relaxing, then this craft is perfect for you! Dried flowers are always going to leave you walking away with something beautiful and the process of attaching and arranging them on your pumpkin can be very meditative. This one is also perfect for those of you who do not have a lot of space and want to create something that will decompose later. Not to mention you can you can do it again and again every year. No more messy hands with traditional pumpkin carving!

4. Crystal Wands

This one is for our whimsy girlies! If you like magic, fairies, and spells this craft is for you! There are so many fun ways to make a wand. You can wrap crystals around a found branch with wire, or use hot glue to attach artificial moss and more! The important thing to remember about wands is that they are meant to carry magic and every wand is unique to the person. So when you create your wand make sure you feel connected to your inner power and know how you want your wand to help you!

5. Hand Painted Tarot Cards

Art by meltedzipper

And LAST but CERTAINLY NOT LEAST!! TAROT CARDS! Have you ever looked at a tarot deck and just fell in love with the unique artwork and thought ‘How did that artist come up with that?’ well you can do it too!! Tarot is all about listening to your intuition and allowing your soul to speak to you through image and symbols. The biggest thing to remember is not to overthink it. Each tarot card speaks to us differently, and the one you create will be your own unique personal expression of its message.

Our favorite materials for getting started with tarot card painting include:

  • Mixed media paper.

  • acrylic paint or watercolors.

  • transfer paper (for imprinting images and symbols that speak to you).
